They are not getting rid of it, but as they do with every 3rd party device/thing 6 years old is they drop support of it. Meaning, as long as you don't update past PT8.0.1, then your good. That means don't upgrade other things either.
Just stay put, and your PT system will always run great !
You have to understand, for them to constantly move forward, they absolutely NEED to drop R&D in things at about the 5-6 year old realm IF and only if other things have taken its 5-6 year old place. Its only fair.
For instance, HD is over 5-6 years old yes, but since nothing has taken its place, there is no reason drop support of it. In the HD world, they only need to R&D/support 1 thing. So thats fine. But lets take the Digi 001 for the other side of the example. When that thing got to be 5-6 years old, other things has taken its place like the Digi 002, M-Boxes, etc.. so after a while they just need to drop support on it. They don't "get rid of it" (like you say), people can still use it, they just can't use it with other newer stuff and apps, etc..
So, same thing (even worse) with the computer issues. God there are so many computers constantly coming out. They NEED to make sure their platform runs on the newest ones no doubt cause thats just a given. But due to what i described above, they HAVE to drop support on computers older than 5-6 years so they don't get overwhelmed and have to hire more staff in turn raising our prices on Digi stuff. Simply put, no one can keep up with the mass amount of computers coming out these days, and testing to make sure everything works properly has to be limited to a bracket from current to 5-6 years old or so if things have taken its place enough to flood the issue..
