Currently (PT 12.8), when freezing instrument tracks, it will not mute the MIDI output of that track automatically. So, for example, if you're routing several instrument tracks to one instance of Kontakt, when you freeze the tracks, unless you mute the MIDI output of each one manually, they'll still play in the background and use up resources. The feature I'm requesting is to simply make it so whenever you freeze a... more »
I was the Pro Tools "expert" at a DAW competition at Berklee College of music earlier in January 2018. Many features had me winning over Logic, Ableton and Garage band. One that made Pro Tools look inept was what happened when importing an elaborate MIDI file. This was one that had a decent mock up 30+ tracks of the score from Raiders of the Lost Ark. All the other DAW's read the midi track names on import. PT12.8.3 did... more »
I would like to see Instrument tracks have an ' input monitoring button ' ..., the same as Audio Tracks do. Many people actually rehearse their gig ...., - trigger samples to tempo maps etc running in pro tools,, - or others who like JAM along via Pro Tools on a Macbook Pro's etc with a decent low latency Interface hooked up to their rehearsal room P.A's , and once in a blue moon they may actually record with it.... more »
A midi arpeggiator much like the one found in ableton live. A midi effect that arpeggiates midi signals, used to control plugins or hardware. A full suite of such midi tools would sure be great, but an arpeggiator would be a nice start.
The competition has had this sort of creation tools for years.
Please have the midi real time controls behave like Logic Pro X so while you are playing a midi clip you can fine tune and adjust midi data (quantize, velocity, etc) with sliders. This would eliminate hitting "Apply". Truly in realtime and accessible in the midi window like Logic Pro X's midi editor window on the left. Logic has collapse mode which gives focus to only the data recorded and not the whole piano roll. Very... more »
I know we have the events list, but it would be nice if it was updated, so that we can see incoming and outgoing midi messages.
This would make life easier, when working with controllers or iPad controllers like Lemur
Will be great for musicians and producers to see the chords in the big counter, specially in recording session situations. I've seen this option in old softwares of big mix consoles.
Important: An option for MIDI chord recognition, and send them directly to the chord rule. AVID Sibelius is the best example for this option.
Presently, notes in the MIDI Editor are assigned by Pro Tools. This is inefficient and difficult to follow (if for instance you're doing a big orchestral session with a lot of different parts that you want to view/edit simultaneously). A better solution would be allow the choice of setting colors for the notes/tracks in the MIDI Editor to either be user-selected from a palette, or to follow the main Track Color.... more »
This is probably one of the largest setbacks to Pro Tool's Midi Platform. Being able to move around midi notes with the numerical keyboard is a must have feature that would take little to no time to program into the software. Key features such as moving around notes with the arrow keys, lengthening and shortening notes with a secondary key command, and octave skips are necessary in such a program as Pro Tools.
To separate MIDI notes on the grid: 1. Set the Grid value. 2. Make an Edit selection or a marquee selection that includes the MIDI notes you want to separate. 3. Choose Edit > Separate > On Grid. 4. In the Pre-Separate Amount dialog, click OK. I've been using this feature a lot since discovering it hidden away in the edit menu, but I like to work quickly with keyboard shortcuts and I feel slowed down having to use the... more »
Allow Window Configurations of the MIDI Editor window to save current MIDI controller lane views. Currently they save window layout, but not specific controller lane views.
For example, save one MIDI Editor Window Config that is just Mod Wheel, one that's velocity + volume + expression, one that's just pitch bend, etc.
In PT 12.5 and 12.4 the midi functionality is so buggy as to be unusable. There are multiple issues - stuck notes, crashes, etc.
Why are everyday CCs like Mod Wheel and Sustain Pedal nested in a submenu in the controller lane, below arcane controllers such as Program Change, Mono Aftertouch and Sysex. This is a holdover from ancient versions of the software, time for a quick update.
It would be nice to be able to have markers showing when opening a midi clip in piano roll.. Would save me a lot to time!
Let us Custom plug-in map any parameter to "Any" Midi Controller (not just Avid apporaved ones) using the 'Right-click' button on our mouse? New Assignments would always overwrite Old Assignments Just right-click and just select controller of your choice, then may be 'save' my choice as MIDI Preset in some kind of drop down menu on the plugin, where you can bring up the settings again to overwrite the current settings... more »
