Pro Tools 11 looks dated with it's skeuomorphic interface and plug-in designs. I'd love to see it go and replaced with an efficient flat graphical design.
The Pro Tools rulers don't seem to reflect that. Instead, for 6/8, 9/8, 12/8, etc., the dividing lines still group quarter notes into 2s or 4s, putting the emphasis on different... more »
It would be a lot clearer and more intuitive if these were shown the other way around, with any pre-fader meter placed just before its corresponding fader.
To a pro, I'm sure this seems like a pointless difference, but I think it would help reduce confusion from newcomers in terms of how to... more »
In my standard session format, I like to have, for example, each kit piece at a 'Mini' size, so it's easier to navigate. Trouble is, whenever I import that to a different session, it makes them all whatever size is being used most recently there, meaning I have to resize all 12 tracks every time!
Would be great if the session data import screen had a checkbox option to retain origin track height.
For this reason, its interface is rendered very poorly on high DPI screens. Even experimenting with Windows' high DPI settings, there are several glitchy configurations and only one configuration that makes the interface usable.
I provide two screenshots which explain the problems experienced with 200% scaling on a 4K display.
They show Pro Tools 2018.4 (current version... more »
The majority of applications for Mac (and also some for Windows) support the two-finger pinch-to-zoom in/out gesture on touchpads, yet Pro Tools does not.
Cmd [ ] is great, but having this gesture-based functionality enabled would definitely make for faster workflow when moving around a session.
The two-finger drag works, so why not this?
It would be very efficient and useful to have a keyboard shortcut for flipping through matching field recorder channels. This would help post production folks quickly toggle to the next mic/channel from a field recorder. Sometimes there are 10 matching field recorder channels and right clicking the region each time gets really time consuming so having a keyboard shortcut for this would speed things up tremendously.
In windows 10 (and earlier) and Pro Tools 12 (and earlier), windows appear with large borders around and some even with the windows 7 look for some reason.
It looks clumsy and also wastes space.
It is time that Pro Tools fixes this, probably by making custom designed window borders.
Attached is a draft of what it could look like.
Suggest to add a user created directory of folders in the clip bin. Drag and drop - moving parent or sub-clips into folders for easier management of files in the pro tools main window.
Sliders & dials are great, sure, but sometimes it can be tough to get exactly the desired value, even when pressing Cmd.

Please; make all visual reference like; edit windows scroll bar, plugin VU etc, follows playback sync. With large mixing sessions and large delays compensation in place, all visual feedback can become almost useless.
Just like selecting inputs and outputs, hovering over "Add to group" gives you a drop down list with all the groups. Click the group and bam, it's added.
Hover over over "Remove from group" gives you a list of all the groups the track is in. Click the group and bam, it's not in that group anymore.

1. An expandable panel in the mixer would be really helpful.
2. A bigger comments that sits like the regions bin. A lot of us write songs in Pro Tools and have to use a text editor to do so. With this addition we could write lyrics as we produce which would be awesome.
